- Loaves & Fishes Centers Opens New Meal Site in Southeast Portland
Loaves & Fishes Centers will open a new senior dining room in Southeast Portland in October. Located in the Clark Family Center at 2740 SE Powell Blvd., the meal site will open for lunch on Monday, Oct. 4. Hot, nutritious lunches will be served Monday through Friday.

- 78th Street Garden Begins Harvest for Seniors
Loaves & Fishes Centers is into gardening in a big way. In an effort to provide fresh produce and reduce food costs, Loaves & Fishes Centers has planted several large gardens throughout the metro area. The largest garden, located at the 78th Street Garden in Vancouver, is more than an acre. Planted in carrots, potatoes and squash in June, a team of more than 100 volunteers will harvest the first batch of carrots on Saturday, Sept. 11, beginning at 9 a.m. They are expecting to harvest 5,000 pounds of vegetables. Volunteers will also harvest carrots at an adjoining garden plot for the Clark County Food Bank.

- North Plains Senior Center Garden Begins Harvest
North Plains Senior Center is into gardening in a big way. What was once a vacant lot adjacent to the center in downtown North Plains has been transformed into a tidy array of raised garden beds that is beginning to yield a variety of fresh produce for use in the Loaves & Fishes Centers program operated out of the center.
